The Right Home For You
Between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2014:

As part of helping tenants adapt to the challenges of welfare reform, our Board approved a scheme in June 2013 to support tenants affected by the bedroom tax to move to smaller homes – including cash and practical help with moving

We spent £20,000 in the last financial year on supporting tenants to move to more suitable homes

Our homes are available for those who need them and are based on the Housing Register held by Wycombe District Council. If you want to apply for a home please visit the Bucks Home Choice website
If you want to move home, we can help with a mutual exchange which is a way of finding a home to swap with an existing tenant so your home better suits your needs

If you would like to find out more about what we are doing to support you with changes, take a look at this page.

We held two ‘speed dating’ events this year to match up tenants who wanted to move to a more suitable home. These two events attracted more than one hundred households and created several home swaps (mutual exchanges)

We have worked closely with Wycombe District Council to make sure that Discretionary Housing Payments get to tenants who most need them

With the Government’s welfare reform, and the bedroom tax which affects the amount of housing benefit some people get, we know it is difficult for some to make rent payments, so we have been working with affected tenants to make the most of any benefit that is available

We created additional roles so that we could carry out financial health checks and give advice on budgets for tenants who need it. This has helped us offer support and create tenancies that are sustainable from the outset, with tenants living in homes that are the right size, with affordable rent.

Preparing for the introduction of Universal Credit (currently scheduled for 2016), which will see a change in how tenants receive their benefits. By working with banks, the Department for Work and Pensions, and other relevant agencies, we can put the right relationships in place that will help those who receive benefits.

The free Home Swapper website helps tenants find a home that best suits their needs, at no cost to us

The speed dating events helped our tenants meet with people who had homes they wanted to swap, helping us to make best use of our stock

Our support for tenants to move helps us to make the best use of our homes.

Dorothy Coomer (Neighbourhood Interest Group)

"The speed dating events were very friendly and relaxed occasions where tenants could meet and chat, and discuss what accommodation they were looking for and what they were offering in exchange, over a cup of tea and biscuits. Generally the reasons were for larger homes to accommodate growing families, or to downsize to something more manageable, or simply a move to another area for work reasons etc. The events were very well attended and proved to be really useful, with those who weren't successful asking Red Kite to hold more events in the near future. As an involved tenant, I was particularly impressed at the relaxed atmosphere and the numbers of tenants who came along to both events. "
